Florida Uber Accidents

Although Uber has increased its driver coverage to $1 million, there are various loopholes in coverage that may severely limit your ability to receive compensation for your injuries from Uber after an accident. Under the current rule, if an Uber driver has yet to accept a passenger, they have no coverage for property damage and if an accident occurs and their liability coverage for injured persons drops to $50,000.

Furthermore, in other instances, where you are unable to seek compensation from Uber, your ability to receive payment from the individual driver is also significantly decreased because of the limitations placed on personal insurance policies. The reasoning that insurance companies use is that if you are using your personal vehicle to pick up passengers your car is being used to conduct a business activity and is no longer covered under your insurance policy.

There may be certain times when the Uber company itself may be liable for your accident-related injuries. In order to ensure that rideshare accident victims can recover the compensation they need; Florida law requires Uber to carry an insurance policy of at least $1 Million per incident.

Uber’s $1 Million insurance policy must cover damage that occurs when a Uber driver accepts a fare and transports a passenger. Coverage extends from the moment a request is accepted until the ride is terminated in the app. This insurance policy, however, will most likely be secondary to the Uber driver’s own personal policy.

Damages Miami Uber Accident Victims May Recover
